Antiques For Everyone

Antiques For Everyone - NEC Bham - Spring Antiques and Fine Art Fair.

Thurs 17th - Sun 20th March

Just a quick blog cos it's nearly the weekend.

OK so let’s not beat about the bush, don't let people kid you otherwise times are tough and there is more open space here this year.
That aside people are flocking through the doors in large numbers by all accounts yesterday began with a massive queue (one dealer told me it was his best first day ever at the NEC) A very steady stream of people are already here Today milling and browsing with that hushed tone of admiration and concentration.

In these times of everything disposable it’s nice to see large numbers of people that still love quality, beauty and craftsmanship and let’s be honest that often excludes new! The wise are determined to beat the poor interest rates that those friendly helpful banks will give you by investing in something beautiful instead. Eh if you buy something that you really love you probably won't want to sell it - but who cares?

I'm here ostensibly to look at the Fine Art, Pottery and Porcelain and there are some very nice pieces indeed. Some of the grander paintings are for the seriously wealthy and might set you back a chunk of that recent lottery win. But there are great works available at more affordable sums too.
Ken Howard, Fred Yates, Joan Gillchrist and Eric Ward are admittedly more Contemporary but my personal fave names on view.  If you’re after a classic iconic scene with great texture and light then Antoine Bouvard Snr is probably my man for Today - not at all swayed by that recent trip to Venice or the price tag!?.

I'm not particularly a brown furniture kind of guy but how amazing do some of the long case and mantel clocks look? And there are tables and cabinets with patina to die for too. Antique rugs alongside shimmering silver, sculptures, jewellery, decorative glass, oriental - whatever’s your bag you'll find it here.

Arts and crafts Mouseman furniture

a few random Orangehat faves include:

AJ Art with some Cornish classics
Hickmet Fine Arts lovely art deco bronzes and decorative glass
Glazed Over a magnitude of Moorcroft
Andrew Muir leader in Clarice Cliff
Beautiful hand carved furniture by Robert Thompson of Kilburn

Special mention to A & M Antiques all the way from New South Wales - minus some stock due to unforeseen circumstances - inspirational.

Times might be tough but if you've got it spend it! - Antiques For Everyone does what it says on the tin.
